One week itinerary in Uzbekistan – Tashkent to Panjakent

As we continue our journey from Kazakhstan, we enter Uzbekistan, a city rich in culture and architecture

If you have yet to read the first part of our Central Asia trip, we started our journey in Kazakhstan before entering Uzbekistan. You can read our Kazakhstan trip here: https://www.thewanderousduo.com/6-day-road-trip-itinerary-kazakhstan-almaty-to-turkestan/

Itinerary

Day 7 (Tashkent)

Our journey into Uzbekistan began with a long and challenging 10-hour border crossing from Kazakhstan, which nearly resulted in our drone being confiscated. After the exhausting ordeal, we treated ourselves to a well-deserved meal at the popular Roni Pizza, which absolutely hit the spot. Later, we checked in at Drimin by Sunrise Caravan, our cozy base for the next few days in Tashkent.

Day 8 (Tashkent)

We spent the day exploring the bustling Chorsu Bazaar, a lively market brimming with local produce and crafts. Its vibrant atmosphere and vast selection reminded us of Almaty’s Green Bazaar, though Chorsu felt grander and more energetic. In the afternoon, we hopped on the Tashkent Metro—an attraction in itself—for a smooth ride to the sleek Tashkent City Mall, where we rounded off the day with a bit of retail therapy and modern city vibes.

Day 9 (Tashkent)

Our cultural exploration continued at the Hazrat Imam Complex, rich in history and local crafts. For lunch, we savored authentic Uzbek cuisine at the renowned Besh Qozon Pilaf Center. Later, we queued for the famous, hearty somsa at Minor Go’sht. We ended our day at Magic City Park, enjoying games, entertainment, and a lively atmosphere.

Day 10 (Tashkent)

This was our relaxing day, featuring a quick view of the historic Kulkedesh Madrassa  from the outside. We took the time to rest and recharge for the journey ahead.

Day 11 (Samarkand)

Driving from Tashkent to Samarkand, we faced fuel challenges typical of Uzbekistan but managed well. Upon arrival, we explored the magnificent Registan Square, steeped in history and breathtaking architecture. Our lunch was Shashlik (Kebabs) at Shokhrukh Nur.

Day 12 (Samarkand)

After breakfast, we visited the Afrasiyob Museum, the spectacular Shah-i-Zinda mausoleum complex, vibrant Siyob Bazaar, and the ornate Amir Temur Mausoleum. We ended our day with dinner at Korean barbeque place called Arirang, located near the Registan Square.

Day 13 (Bukhara)

We left Samarkand for Bukhara first thing in the morning. In Bukhara, we enjoyed a peaceful break at the Silk Road Tea House before exploring the Po-i-Kalyan complex, including its famous minaret. In the evening, we took a walk around the lively Poyi Kalan area, enjoying the cool evening breeze and local charm.

Day 14 (Bukhara, Panjakent)

Our Uzbekistan journey concluded with a scenic drive towards Panjakent, preparing us for our next border crossing and new adventures ahead. We will cross the Bukhara – Panjakent border.
